Market slips following bank holiday
Bank shares plunged on the ISEQ index as the market assimilated Monday’s
announcement from Bradford and Bingley that it was slashing the price of its emergency funding drive and also its negative commentary on the British mortgage market.
AIB and Bank of Ireland finished down 32c and 56c to 12.58 and 7.59 as the financial sell-off took hold in
early trading and failed to be reversed. Anglo-Irish shed 62c to 7.78, while Irish Life and Permanent followed suit down 77c to 10.48.
