Blackrock Clinic to go under the knife in €100m, 5-year expansion
The expansion will create 100 jobs at the independently owned health care facility. Also on completion of the five-year expansion — which will include a three-floor extension to the existing hospital facility and a multi-storey car park - it will be the first major acute hospital to accommodate all inpatients in single rooms, said Blackrock Clinic.
The scheme will incorporate two new operating theatres, including an additional specialised orthopaedic theatre, which will result in a 40% increase in availability of theatre space.
The jobs being created will bring total employment at the hospital to 650.
Chief executive Bryan Harty said: “We are delighted to embark on a programme of investment that will not only strengthen existing services at the clinic but will also introduce greater patient capacity, improved facilities and a first-class environment for patients, doctors and staff alike.
“This expansion is testament to our commitment to long-term excellence in the delivery of acute surgical, medical and diagnostic services. It will be business as usual for Blackrock Clinic during construction and we plan that there will be only limited disruption to our normal hospital schedules or ongoing patient care.”
In addition, a refurbishment will take place throughout the existing hospital building which will include an overhaul of the restaurant and reception.
Blackrock Clinic is owned by a consortium of hospital management, healthcare and business professionals.
The hospital includes a coronary care unit and intensive care unit, a daycare facility and an oncology day ward.
