IFA seals deal to end pipeline fight

FOLLOWING intense negotiations with Bord Gais officials, the IFA yesterday announced it had agreed an improved compensation package for landowners affected by a proposed gas pipeline due to run from Curraleigh West in Tipperary, to Midleton in Co Cork.

Sean O’Leary, Munster vice president, who led the IFA team, said he was very happy with the final agreement, which was well received by landowners. A range of improved measures to safeguard farmers’ interests and ensure their property is treated with respect was also agreed. Mr O’Leary said Bord Gais will be writing to all landowners in the next few weeks, with full details of the proposed pipeline and compensation package agreed.
