THE appointment of two food technologists, who will based at the Teagasc research centres in Moorepark and Ashtown, was announced yesterday by Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs Minister Éamon Ó Cuív.

Teagasc hires two food advisers

Early last year, he pledged funding of about €350,000 during 2008 and 2009 to Teagasc to employ advisers in the dairy and meat sectors. Sara McSweeney and Carol Griffin, the new appointees, will work on the delivery of technical support primarily for artisan food businesses in the meat and dairy sectors.

Mr Ó Cuív said the appointments come at a time when the rural development fund aims to unlock the enterprise potential of our local food heritage.
