THE slaughtering line at Glanbia’s pig processing plant at Edenderry, Co Offaly, which was unaffected by the fire that gutted the rest of the building last month, is expected to resume in November, the company announced yesterday.

But the remainder of the plant is still unfit for business, said Glanbia, and it was continuing to evaluate the implications of the fire and will advise employees in due course. Slaughtering, currently being carried out at the Glanbia Meats Roscrea facility at weekends, is to resume at Edenderry.

Glanbia said it will cut and bone these pigs at the Parkmore facility, also in Roscrea, Monday to Friday, in addition to the work already being carried out there.
