Co-ops ‘in danger of losing focus’

THE Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers’ Association leader, Jackie Cahill, warned yesterday that co-ops might lose focus on cutting costs and increasing efficiencies at a time of high dairy product prices.

He said progress has been made on these issues but more work is required and the focus on reducing duplicated overheads must be maintained.

Mr Cahill said, even allowing for the market resurgence of recent months, specific problems remain in the dairy sector if it is to reach the heights of which it is capable. Such solutions must take milk price as the starting point.
