Farmers’ package of little benefit

THE recent package for sheep farmers will do little to secure the sector’s future, the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers’ Association has claimed.

Dingle farmer James Brosnan, ICMSA sheep committee chairman, said the measures are restricted to certain groups of farmers: “There is nothing extra in the package to ensure that the mountain breeds are maintained and hill sheep farming is secured into the future.”

Mr Brosnan said sheep farmers will need to get better prices if the sector is to thrive again.
