Meeting bids to save Galtee plant

A PUBLIC meeting will be held in Mitchelstown tonight in a bid to save the former Galtee meats plant from closure with the loss of 70 jobs.

Ned O’Keeffe, TD, who has called the meeting for Paki Fitz’s premises at 9pm, said the closure of the plant would be bad news for farmers, workers, the community and the agricultural sector.

Breeo Foods, consumer foods division of Reox Holdings announced the plant closure following an in-depth review of its manufacturing facilities.

Reox was formed as a result of the spin out of the non-farm dependent business activities from Dairygold Co-op last year.
