6,000 to flock to sheep-shearing fest

MORE than 6,000 visitors are expected in the Co Galway village of Clonbur for the Clik Pour-on All Ireland Sheep Shearing Championships over the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend (June 2-3).

Now, the third largest event in the agri-calendar, the championships will be held for the first time in the Connemara Gaeltacht, where local co-op, CDS Teo, is the driving force behind preparations.

Local farmers will supply more than 1,500 sheep for shearing by competitors from Australia, New Zealand, England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, north and south.
