THE ISEQ Index closed down yesterday mirroring similar declines across European Bourses.

The Dublin Exchange lost 98.62 points to slip to 9442.15.

The Banking sector lost the most ground with AIB down 16c to 23.40 and Bank of Ireland shedding 21c to 17.20. Anglo Irish fell 6c to 16.26 while Irish Life & Permanent compounded the sectors downward trend with a 50c drop to 21.05.

Elsewhere Ryanair slipped 14c to 5.62 as the company’s chances of acquiring Aer Lingus look unlikely. Aer Lingus lightened by 5c to 2.85 as the company’s profits fell sharply due to higher cost on its first set of results after its IPO.
