World Cup boosts television sales

THE World Cup boosted sales of flatscreen televisions according to DSG International, the group which owns and operates the Dixons, PC World and Currys chains of electrical retailers.

They reported a 28% surge in sales in its Irish operations for the 16-week period up to August 19.

“Flat panel television sales across Europe were boosted by the World Cup and, in the weeks since, have continued to grow year on year. Laptops also continued to perform well,” said chief executive, John Clare at the group’s annual general meeting earlier this week.
