Digicel expands services to Trinidad and Tobago

The launch yesterday is the latest in the company’s roll-out across the Caribbean and follows on from the beginning of services in Antigua and Barbuda in recent weeks.

The company said it has invested nearly $200 million (€163m) on its latest mobile network in one of the most populated of the Caribbean territories. Around 200 stores are selling Digicel phones.

“Communications technology is at the heart of all nations and the needs of customers in Trinidad & Tobago have gone under-served for far too long,” Mr O’Brien said yesterday in a statement.

“That has all changed starting today with the launch of Digicel’s service. This is a great milestone in the country’s history and we are proud to be apart of it as we approach our five-year anniversary.”

Digicel’s operations on the islands are being headed by Stephen Brewer, the former chief executive of Vodafone in Ireland.

Digicel said it plans to launch mobile phone services in more countries in the region. It currently has operations in 16 Caribbean countries.
