THE ISEQ index closed marginally lower at 4304.83 points yesterday, down 5.88 points on the day.

Financials have mixed day

The financials had a somewhat mixed day with Allied Irish Bank adding 5c to €14.10 on thin volumes, Irish Life and Permanent adding 3c to €12.23 and First Active 18c firmer at €4.95.

Bank of Ireland, who traded lower for most of the session, edged back to finish unchanged at €11.40 ahead of the results today. Anglo Irish Bank slipped back to €6.52, down 3c. The ISEQ Financial index was up 19.36 points overall to 8903.83.

Waterford Wedgewood, which released its interim results, closed unchanged at 40c despite trading higher earlier in the day. MBO target Alphyra fell 5c to €2.02. Food stocks had a strong day overall. Kerry Group added 10c to €12.80 while Greencore advanced 6c to €2.45. Fyffes were a cent weaker at €1.40 while Glanbia finished unchanged at €1.60.

Other movers included, Riverdeep up 5c at €1.25, Jurys Doyle 7c higher at €7.15 and Irish Continental Group up 30c to €6.65. Negative stocks were, Ryanair down 15 to €7.35 and Paddy Power 5c off at €4.40.
