THE ISEQ Index of shares performed poorly again yesterday, dropping 29.88 points to close at 4313.45.

Major financials buoyant

The major financial shares had a resilient day. Allied Irish Bank recovered marginally to close up 10c to 12.50. Anglo Irish Bank also finished higher by 3c to close at 6.08. Bank of Ireland added 1c to finish at 11.40. Financials which closed in negative territory included IFG which fell 40c to 1.40, Irish Life slid 30c to 13.65 and First Active reduced 15c to 4.25. The ISEQ financial gained 2.32 points to finish at 8546.88. Other notable movers included Ryanair and Elan Corp Plc. Ryanair denied allegations in a Dutch paper concerning safety conditions and employee discipline as “entirely untrue.” Ryanair’s share price fell 25c to 5.65. Elan closed down 7c to 1.98.

Elsewhere, Irish Contintental Group fell 53c to 7.50, DCC slid 35c to 10.15, Galen lost 25c to 5.75 and Kingspan dropped 13c to 2.05. Iona Technologies Plc closed 10c higher to 3.20.
