Anglo Irish Bank improves by 9 cent

TRADING volumes in Dublin were light again with markets taking no clear direction, as investors awaited comments from the US Federal Reserve due yesterday evening.

The ISEQ index edged 1.83 points higher to 4384.85.

Financial shares were mixed. Anglo Irish Bank gained 9c to 8.47 while Bank of Ireland added 6c to 10.54. However, AIB and Irish Life & Permanent both lost ground.

Over six million shares were traded in Independent News & Media after APN News & Media, 44%-owned by the Irish company, reported its interim results. The stock slipped 3c to 1.58. Elsewhere, Galen Holdings continued to recover from last Friday’s fall, climbing 4.2% to 8.75. Other noteworthy movers included Paddy Power, up 15c to 6.15 and CRH fell 20c to 15.40.
