ICAI welcomes directors’ move

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI) has welcomed remarks made yesterday by Minister for Trade and Commerce, Michael Ahern on the requirements for company directors to sign off on compliance statements.

The minister told the Seanad he had listened to concerns of affected parties, including ICAI, concerning the impact the requirements might have on companies’ costs and competitiveness.

ICAI President, Terence O’Rourke said: “I congratulate the minister for rethinking this. We hope he will conclude the provision is in advance of similar measures in any other jurisdiction and therefore not in Ireland’s long term interests.”
