Accountants claim industry changes

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI) has described the Companies Report 2003, published by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, as proof of the fundamental and ongoing change in the areas of corporate governance and company law.

“Our profession has worked constructively with Government to bring about these changes. We would like to see now progress made in areas of legitimate concern to the profession,” ICAI president Terence O’Rourke said.

Last year the institute dealt with 97 complaints against its 13,700 members.

76 were against auditors and three-quarters were resolved without triggering the institute’s formal complaints procedures.
