IT was another quiet day on the Irish market yesterday, with the index creeping 22.96 points higher to 4078.88.

There was more activity in the financial market as the financial index rose 108.53 points to 8379.11. Allied Irish Banks climbed 18c higher to €13.20 and Bank of Ireland gained 19c to €10.63. Anglo Irish Bank rose 11c to €6.26 and First Active closed 7c up at €4.72. However, Irish Life and Permanent fell back 10c to €11.85 and IFG Group remained unchanged at €0.57.

In the pharmaceutical sector, United Drug fell 40c to €12c as Elan were 8c weaker at €1.35. Galen Holdings rose 15c to €6.55. In the industrial sector CRH fell 23c to €13.47 and DCC slipped 15c lower to €9.15. Abbey closed 2c lower at €4.48 and Kingspan 1c weaker at €1.61.
