Chambers bid to boost China links

TRADE and Commerce Minister Michael Ahern launched a Chambers of Commerce initiative to encourage business in China yesterday.

"This initiative will give an added boost to the actions being taken under the Government's Asia Strategy 2005-2009," he said.

Ireland's total trade with Greater China (including Hong Kong) last year was worth in the region of €4.8 billion. Exports to the area were €1.5bn and imports were €3.3bn.

A recent Enterprise Ireland Trade Mission to China saw contracts worth over €125 million signed.
