The Ryanair-backed European Low Fares Airline Association (ELFAA) has succeeded in its High Court action to refer a new EU directive on passenger compensation to the European courts.

The court found the directive, which will force airlines to compensate passengers for flight delays and cancellations from next year, could damage the airline industry. It recommended the European Court of Justice deal with the case urgently.
