Smart Telecom has called on the communications regulator to explain why it is yet to reprimand Eircom for making improper marketing contact with Smart customers.

ComReg said it had no plans to take action after Eircom blamed a computer error that it said caused it to inadvertently contact more than 100 Smart customers.

Smart chief executive Oisín Fanning said he was “astonished” at ComReg’s failure to act.
