Musgrave’s picks Gallaghers for slice of bread market to satisfy customers
MUSGRAVE’S has chosen Donegal firm Gallaghers as its main supplier to take a slice in the bread market.
Musgrave’s Food Services, which supplies restaurants and shops across the country with fresh produce, said it wants to get a 10% share of the €60 million fresh bread market in two years time.
The company looked at suppliers outside of Ireland but said it was impressed with Gallaghers’ quality.
The Cork company said the new bread contract was just one of several major range developments, which also includes a major meat business and a soon to be unveiled desserts range.
Musgrave’s Food Services head Frank Coghlan said the company recognised a gap for a premium quality range of bread, confectionery and savoury products at a more competitive price.
“For our customers bread can sometimes be an expense or extra item on the table, we believe that his new range will give our customers, some new options that will satisfy their needs.”
Musgrave’s formed the division in 2001 and says it expanded rapidly since.
It said yesterday that its chilled and frozen sales continue to outperform the general business and in its most recent trading period, accounted for almost a quarter of all customer sales - this figure is more than 40% up on last year.
The company said it supplied some big names in the catering business, including Compass, Sodexho and Campbell Bewley.
