Market follows Europe into the red

SHARES in Dublin mirrored European declines yesterday as markets finished in the red. The ISEQ index closed 30.53 points lower at 5,376.59.

The financials were mainly weaker. Allied Irish Bank fell 9c to €12.39 while Anglo Irish Bank was steady at €13.30. Bank of Ireland shed 10c to €10.40 while Irish Life & Permanent slipped to €13.70.

Pharmaceutical firm Elan’s stock finished 5c higher at €18.85. Budget airline Ryanair fell for a fourth consecutive day, losing 17c to €4.76.
