Concern at new pharmacy laws

THE new President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland, Ronan Quirke, has raised concerns about the effectiveness of proposed new pharmacy legislation if it does not provide for the licensing of pharmacies while regulating pharmacists themselves.

Writing in the Irish Pharmacy Journal, Mr Quirke said evidence from other jurisdictions was that it is essential both to regulate the pharmacy and the pharmacist in the interests of public health and patient welfare.
