ELECTRICAL goods manufacturer Glen Dimplex could be paid compensation of up to $25 million (€18m) after a US court found that a rival had copied four of its product designs.

A jury in a Chicago district court found that Canadian firm CFM has wilfully copied the designs of Glen Dimplex’s electric fireplaces and kitchen stoves.

The jury awarded the Irish company $8.3m (€6.17m) in compensation, but the judge in the case has discretion to treble the damages. A decision on whether to do this will be made in the next 30 days.
