Anglo Irish Bank has four internal contenders for the post of chief executive, and a final decision should be made soon.

Chief operating officer Tiarnan O’Mahoney, head of wealth management Tom Browne and the head of Anglo’s British operations, John Rowan, are the three main contenders.

David Drumm, currently responsible for banking in Dublin and the United States, could also be a contender.
