Paris Hilton, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody are among thousands of people who have lost their homes to fire in Los Angeles, as five people have been declared dead.

Several celebrities have spoken out about losing their homes on social media as the deadly fires tore through over 1,000 structures across the city.

On Wednesday, a fast-moving fire erupted in the Hollywood Hills, leading to more evacuation orders for Los Angeles residents as fire crews battled three other major blazes.

The Pacific Palisades were one of the worst hit areas, where actor James Woods’ house was located.

The Oppenheimer producer broke down in tears on CNN as he spoke about his experience.

“One day you’re swimming in the pool and the next day it’s all gone,” he said.

Mr Woods mentioned his niece, aged eight, innocently offered to help.

“She came out with her little Yeti piggy bank, for us to rebuild our house,” he told CNN.

More than 1,000 structures were destroyed in the Palisades fire, the most destructive in the modern history of Los Angeles.

More than half a dozen schools in the area were either damaged or destroyed, including Palisades Charter High School, which has been featured in many Hollywood productions, including the 1976 horror movie Carrie and the TV series Teen Wolf, officials said.

Paris Hilton confirmed on Instagram that her Malibu home was destroyed.

“Heartbroken beyond words. Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience,” she wrote before acknowledging those who also lost their homes, as well as firefighters.

This Is Us actress Mandy Moore also posted a message on social media after her house burnt down.

She said she was grateful for family and friends who helped her get out “before it was too late”.

“Grateful for my family and pets getting out last night before it was too late (and endless gratitude to friends for taking us in and bringing us clothes and blankets). Honestly, I'm in shock and feeling numb for all so many have lost, including my family.

“My children's school is gone. Our favourite restaurants, levelled. So many friends and loved ones have lost everything too. Our community is broken but we will be here to rebuild together,” she wrote on Instagram.

At least five people were killed in the blazes, which erupted on Wednesday night.
