Three-year-old boy 'crushed under wall at Darlington store'

A three-year-old boy has been flown to hospital with serious injuries after he was crushed under a wall at a store, the Great North Air Ambulance Service has said.

Police cordoned off a street close to the store in Darlington around 3.30pm on Sunday to allow the helicopter to land.

The boy was seen being carried out of the store on a stretcher and then was flown to the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, six minutes away.

Durham Police said his injuries were not life-threatening and inquiries are under way.

A Great North Air Ambulance Service spokesman said the patient had been "crushed" under a wall.

A paramedic and a doctor treated his injured pelvis, abdomen and chest before the helicopter took off.

The air ambulance service said the little boy was stable when he arrived at hospital and described his injuries as "severe/serious".

A worker at the store where the incident was thought to have happened said he could not comment.
