New dinosaur found in Alaska

Researchers say fossils found in northern Alaska came from a new species of dinosaur.

Pat Druckenmiller of the University of Alaska Museum says the dinosaur is a new species of hadrosaur, a duck-billed vegetarian.

It’s the fourth distinct species to be named from Alaska’s North Slope, the area from the north side of the Brooks Range to the Arctic Ocean.

Druckenmiller says it grew up to 30 feet long and had hundreds of teeth.

Most of the fossils of the species were found in a bed along the Colville River.

Mr Druckenmiller and other researchers published their findings Tuesday in an international paleontology journal.

They say the fossils were found in rock deposited 69 million years ago.
