Paris shuts parks in wind alert

High winds whipping across France have killed two people and, in an unusual measure, pushed the capital, Paris, into closing all parks and cemeteries.

Nearly three dozen regions around France went on alert on Wednesday.

Officials said winds could reach 100km per hour (60mph) in Paris and elsewhere.

The Interior Ministry announced two wind-related deaths in south-west France.

Paris City Hall battened down the hatches, closing parks and cemeteries as a security measure.
