'Operation Irish': The education programme about dog droppings

A police force in Wales has been accused of racism after naming a community education programme about dog droppings "Operation Irish".

The scheme by South Wales Police involves classroom visits by police officers who tell children about the dangers of not cleaning up dog droppings.

However the name's stirred anger among some charities in the Cardiff area, where it's estimated that up to 30% of the population are of Irish descent.

A police spokeswoman said the names of police operations were assigned at random and no offence was intended.
