Restaurant serves 'pizza with a difference' - from the supermarket shelves
A restaurateur has admitted he served pizzas bought from a supermarket.
Gary Newborough promised to give customers "pizza with a real difference" when they turned up to the VIP launch of his new eatery, La Pizzeria Ristorante, in Manchester, north west England.
While foodies were impressed with the grub he served up, they later learned, via a note which was passed round, that the tasty treats were bought from the freezer section of a nearby store for just £2.78 each.
Despite the revelation, Gary is planning to still serve the supermarket pizzas in the restaurant until September 7.
He is quoted by MailOnline as saying: "We wanted to see if they could tell the difference between freshly cooked pizzas and frozen ones from stores.
"Evidently people didn’t know the difference and were taken in because they loved it so much.
"Unfortunately some people at the launch were a little cross when they found out we were serving frozen supermarket pizzas.
"But they weren’t complaining when it was free and they were going through 36 bottles of sparkling wine that I laid on. It was just a bit of fun and it didn’t cost anybody anything to try it."
