Mourners have come out in force in New York to pay their respects - to a car.

Dozens of Inwood residents packed the streets to mourn the passing of local man Harry Ettling’s 1982 Honda Civic after it finally packed up with 170,000 miles on the clock.

The motor, known as Bluey - in spite of the majority of blue paint being worn off throughout the years - was loaded onto a truck for its final ride to vehicle heaven - the scrap yard.

Harry wore a suit and top hat as he led a funeral procession in front of the motor, which had a bouquet of flowers on its bonnet.

He is quoted by the New York Daily News as saying: “Everybody in the neighbourhood knows this car.

“People have come up to me and said, ‘Ever since I was a little toddler, I’ve been seeing this car on the street’, and that’s a beautiful thing."
