Yemen al-Qaida claims suicide blast
Al-Qaida in Yemen has claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing at the weekend which killed at least 25 people.
The group said the car bomb attack was a warning to the US to stop meddling in Yemen’s affairs.
It said in a statement that the attack which rocked a presidential compound in the city of Mukalla in southern Hadramout province on Saturday came in response to the US war against Islamist forces in Yemen.
The group vowed today that it would “come after this American project”.
During a year of turmoil which eventually forced long-time President Ali Abdullah Salah out of office, al Qaida-linked militants have seized control of towns and territory in the lawless south.
The US considers al-Qaida in Yemen to be one of the group’s most dangerous branches.
