14 killed in Bangladesh bus crash

At least 14 people were killed when a speeding bus plunged into a ditch in south-western Bangladesh, reports said.

Private Desh TV station and the Daily Star newspaper said 40 other people were injured in the crash in Madaripur district, 45 miles (72km) south-west of the capital, Dhaka.

Road accidents kill at least 10,000 people a year in the South Asian nation, according to government figures. They are blamed on unskilled driving, faulty vehicles and lax rules.
