Gillard 'disappointed' by Rudd resignation

Australia's Prime Minister Julia Gillard has said she is "disappointed" by Kevin Rudd's decision to resign as Foreign Minister.

Mr Rudd's resignation follows days of speculation surrounding the leadership of the country's Labour government.

Australian media reports suggest Ms Gillard was planning to sack him after rumours he was preparing to challenge her leadership.
