Teen tells victims 'it's your fault I burgled you'
A teenage burglar wrote a letter to his victim, blaming the householder for the crime and saying how he felt no remorse, police in Britain have said.
West Yorkshire Police released the letter in a bid to warn people about the dangers of leaving their properties vulnerable to intruders.
The force has not named the victim, who lives in Leeds, or the burglar, who was 16 at the time and was eventually given a 12- month intensive supervision and surveillance plan by magistrates.
The badly-spelt letter says: āTo be honest Iām not bothered or sorry about the fact I burgled your house.
āBasicly, it was your fault anyways.
āIām going to run you through the dumb mistakes you made.ā
The letter then notes a number of āmistakesā the householder made, including leaving curtains and a window open.
It ends: āBut anyways I dont feel sorry for you and Im not going to show any sympath or remores.ā
Officers said that ādue to the cold-hearted nature of the letterā it was not passed on to the victim.
They said that in the 12 months since October 2010, 28% of all burglaries in Leeds occurred as a result of an insecure property.
Chief Inspector Melanie Jones said: āThe contents of the letter are disgusting but it does highlight the cold and dispassionate way burglars select a property to target.ā
