That's batty - traffic lights to warn bats when trains are coming

Bat traffic lights are set to be installed in a British tunnel.

A one-month long trial will take place to see if the creatures can react accordingly when the lights warn of approaching trains in the hope they will quell the number of bats killed by the vehicles.

A spokesman told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “This is a tried and tested technique on roads and we want to see if it is applicable to the railways."

Trial leader Geoff Billington said: “We hope they will learn to associate the two things.”

The initiative is set to take place under the A40 Wolvercote roundabout in Oxford.
