UK Customs runs out of paper
The UK's customs and tax department has admitted to running out of paper.
HM Revenue and Customs was unable to send thousands of letters to people who owed payments, which were due to be settled by July 31, because of a lack of materials.
An HMRC spokesman said: “Due to exceptionally high demand this year we are experiencing delays in sending paper self assessment tax statements to customers.
"This in no way prevents the accurate payment of tax and no one will be out of pocket as a result. Account information can be viewed on line so it isn’t necessary to wait for a paper statement."
The organisation has revealed it will allow those who did not receive a reminder letter an extra 30 days to pay up.
