Seven people were injured but none gored in a swift and particularly dangerous penultimate chapter of this year's running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

The diciest part of the daredevil sprint came in the home stretch today as the largest bull ran alone ahead of the pack of five others and six steers and barrelled through the crowd like a locomotive.

The 1,400lb (635kg) animal mowed down half a dozen runners, its horns catching one man by the shirt and another by the armpit and tossing them to the ground like rag dolls. But no-one was gored.

Navarra Hospital said seven people were treated for leg, head or face injuries suffered in falls.

Tomorrow sees the last of the San Fermin festival's eight runs.
