Croatia may join EU in July 2013

Croatia may become the 28th member state of the EU in July 2013.

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has said the EU Council of Ministers has been advised to conclude the lengthy membership process.

The country applied for membership in 2003, and formal negotiations began in late 2005.
