Protestors gather outside Bahrain embassy
Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the Bahraini embassy in London today calling for the downfall of the Bahraini government.
Police estimated that up to 600 people took part in the demonstration demanding an end to the violence against protesters in Bahrain and chanting: âThe people want the downfall of the government.â
One of the organisers, Zaid Ali, 22, a British-born Iraqi from Wembley, London, said: âWeâre supporting the peaceful protesters and weâre supporting them because theyâre seeking democracy. They want their rights â one man, one vote.
âWe want the British government to put pressure on the Bahraini government to either give people their rights or run away and leave them alone.
âLet them set up their own government, let them vote for who they want in their own government. They donât want dictators any more and thatâs simply what this is.
âBahraini people are marching for their country, they just want their rights. They are not religious extremists or anything like that.â
Mr Zaid called for the British Government to take action in curbing the violence in the strife-torn country.
âI think our government, being one of the best democracies in the world, should support those protesting,â he said.
Mr Zaid, who studies computer science at Kings College London, said the demonstrators had travelled from across the UK to support the uprising in Bahrain.
He said: âYou have tens of thousands of people in Bahrain marching for this and you have people here today supporting this.
âThese people have been supporting the same uprisings in Libya, Yemen, Tunisia and Egypt but today a lot of the protesters are Bahraini.
âWe have been organising this for about a week, mainly using Facebook, Twitter and social networking sites.
âWeâve got a group online of about 12,000 people who have all helped set it up and weâve been emailing MPs to try and get the dreadful stuff thatâs going on in Bahrain stopped.â
