Egypt's new military rulers have begun dismantling ousted President Hosni Mubarak's regime.

They have dissolved parliament, suspended the constitution and promised a referendum on political reform.

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces' said it will run the affairs of the country on a temporary basis until the end of parliamentary and presidential elections in six months' time.

Yesterday, hundreds of thousands of people who had occupied Tahrir Square in the centre of Cairo returned home after a massive volunteer clean-up, where people from all walks of life swept the streets and collected rubbish.

In Britain, the Business Secretary Vince Cable has urged the international community to take "concerted" action to deal with any Mubarak assets held abroad as pressure grows on the UK government to freeze any of his wealth in the country.
