Dozens die in Burma landslides

Burma state media reported that several days of flooding and landslides caused by monsoon downpours killed 57 people in the country’s northwestern region near Bangladesh.

The Myanmar Ahlin newspaper said more than 2,000 people fled due to the torrential rains that started on Sunday and ended in midweek.

Flooding and landslides triggered by the rain washed away villages and homes and damaged schools and bridges.

Today’s report said that flood water levels receded and relief operations were underway.
