New Zealand Prime Minister John Key said the country will extend its troop commitment to Afghanistan for another year and then begin posting civilian development specialists to the war-torn nation.

Mr Key was speaking after making a three-day visit to Afghanistan where he held talks with President Hamid Karzai, the commander of international forces, General Stanley McChrystal, and visited New Zealand troops serving in the capital, Kabul, and in Bamiyan province.
