A 5.0-magnitude earthquake rocked mining towns in the state of Western Australia, collapsing roofs in buildings and causing the closure of at least one gold mine.

Geoscience Australia said the quake hit at 8.17am today (12.17am Irish time), about six miles southwest of the town of Kalgoorlie.
