Iranian court sets date for US reporter's appeal

Iran’s judiciary has confirmed an appeals court will hear the case of an American journalist convicted of spying next week.

Roxana Saberi, whose father says she has been on a hunger strike for two weeks, was convicted last month of passing intelligence to the US and sentenced to eight years in prison after a one-day trial behind closed doors.

Judiciary spokesman Ali Reza Jamshidi said that in the appeal, experts from the Bar Association, Intelligence Ministry and the Prosecutor’s Office have been invited to attend.

He denied that Saberi was on a hunger strike.

Saberi moved to Iran six years ago and worked as a freelance journalist for news organisations including National Public Radio before her arrest in January.
