Prostitute killer applies for appeal
Steve Wright will find out next month if he can appeal against his conviction for murdering five prostitutes in the UK, the Royal Courts of Justice (RCJ) said today.
The 50-year-old, from Ipswich, Suffolk, was found guilty of killing the women in February last year following a trial at Ipswich Crown Court.
A spokeswoman for the RCJ confirmed today that Wright’s case would be considered by three judges in a public hearing on February 24.
A spokesman for Suffolk Crown Prosecution Service said Wright had applied for leave to appeal.
Wright murdered the women over a six-week period between October and December 2006.
Their bodies were found dumped at isolated spots around Ipswich between December 2 and December 12, 2006.
Tania Nicol, 19, Gemma Adams, 25, Anneli Alderton, 24, Paula Clennell, 24, and Annette Nicholls, 29, all disappeared after working in the town’s red light district.
Wright was told he would spend the rest of his life behind bars after jurors returned unanimous guilty verdicts on the five counts of murder.
