Bride killed in crash on way home from reception

Police say a young bride killed in a car crash on the way home from her wedding reception was a Chinese national living in New Zealand.

Yan Liu, 26, was killed in the smash after leaving a reception at a Chinese restaurant in the northern city of Auckland.

Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said Mrs Yan’s husband was not travelling in the same car.

The crash happened late last night when the BMW car Mrs Yan was in hit a light pole on a traffic island at an intersection.

Mrs Yan died at the scene and the other passengers had to be cut from the vehicle.
