10-year-old flips van in high-speed US crash
A 10-year-old child was behind the wheel of a van when it crashed at speeds of up to 90mph, Tennessee sheriff's deputies said today.
Sullivan County sheriff's Captain Keith Elton said that authorities discovered a man and woman and two other children in the wreckage.
The woman had been allegedly taking pills and the man told police he had drank at least 15 beers.
Polcie said the young driver lost control of the speeding van, which rolled, coming to rest on its top. Everyone in the van was taken to a hospital in Blountville, Tennessee, with minor injuries.
Authorities said that the children were related to the adults, but could not specify how.
The adults face multiple charges including reckless endangerment and child abuse. The children have been placed in state care.
